UK Loggerhead turtles returned to the Canary Islands |
|
The only two survivors of the 23 loggerhead turtles which have been stranded on British and Irish coasts this year have been returned to the Canary Islands and released back into the sea. The Canary Islands are the nearest point of land to the loggerheads' migration route around the Atlantic Ocean.
The animals were very weak when they were found on the UK coast in Devon and Cornwall but they have now been nursed back to health and microchipped so if they are ever found again, a tag in their flipper can be used for identification. |
