ADEX 2006 Dive Tek Showcases Expertise of The Dive Industry’s Most Celebrated
Technical Divers
This year’s Asia Dive Expo 2006 (ADEX) looks set to be an information treasure trove for technical and leisure divers.

The exhibition will incorporate Dive Tek, a two-day program of seminars on various specialist topics of interest targeted at experienced divers and those who are keen to learn more from experts in technical diving. The return of the technical conference to ADEX coincides with the increasing popularity of technical diving. Attracted by advanced safety procedures and skill development, and spurred by the chance to go deeper, stay longer or to enter forbidden regions like deep penetrations of caves and wrecks, more divers are looking to push the envelope of recreational diving beyond the usual limits.

Dive Tek at ADEX will feature presentations from heavyweights in the dive industry today, including dive luminaries like Dr. Bill Hamilton, Bob Ramsay, Dr. R.T. (Phil) Nuytten, Dr. Glen Campbell Hawkins, John Lippmann, Andrew Wight, Kevin Denlay, Martin L. Lorenzo and Weng Haidong. Spanning a broad range of technical topics, from Dr. Bill Hamilton’s key-note address on “Technical Diving Today” to veteran underwater film maker, Andrew Wight’s “Expedition Management”, Dive Tek has something to pique every diver’s interest. Divers fascinated by the wealth of wreck diving to be enjoyed in and around Asia and the Pacific region will be thrilled with Kevin Denlay’s presentation on “The Discovery and Diving of Some of the Most Important Historic World War II Warship-wrecks in Asian Waters” with never before seen footage of lost cruisers and first hand accounts of discoveries. Divers curious about the possibilities of technical diving and dive sites in China will glean more from “Technical Diving: Made in China” presented by Weng Haidong.
Dr. Bill Hamilton, Physiologist, Hamilton Research Ltd., said: “Technical diving is a mature and widespread practice. To really make the most out of it, proper training, support, equipment, and procedures are essential. ADEX offers an ideal platform to advance the knowledge and skills of experienced divers, while offering a glimpse of the fascinating possibilities of technical diving to leisure divers who plan to take it up.”
With the line-up of expert speakers who are innovators of the dive industry, Dive Tek at ADEX is poised to raise the bar of international dive conferences in Asia. It also offers excellent networking opportunities for like-minded dive experts and gurus to gather and share their passion. Participation fees at Dive Tek are at $129 per delegate for registrations before 15 March 2006.
Asia Dive Expo, held from 21-23 April 2006 in Suntec Singapore, is organised by Suntec Integrated Media. Established since 1995, ADEX expects to welcome 150 exhibiting companies and 10,000 visitors. www.asiadiveexpo.com

Our intrepid correspondent Robert Yin made his annual pilgrimage to the DEMA show in Las Vegas, USA, last October 4 to 7, and reports that the show is as huge as ever.

Areas he covered included Batanes, Batangas, Puerto Galera, Subic and the whale sharks of Donsol (Northern Philippines), Balicasag, Moalboal, Cabilao and Malapascua (Central Philippines and Visayas) and Davao and The Turtle Islands for the Southern Philippines.
DEMA ia one of the major annual events for diving in North America, and is well supported by many Asia-Pacific nations, as Bob’s pictures show.
