The
Asian Dive Expo held in Singapore in April 2002, gave
PADI Asia Pacific a fantastic opportunity to present
PADI International Resort & Retail Association Members
with industry awards for their accomplishments during
2001. PADI's large and colourful booth created a perfect
backdrop for award winners to be photographed during
the course of the event.
PADI Dive Centre, Dive Supply in Phuket, Thailand received
the PADI Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Dive
Industry. PADI Instructor and Dive Supply's owner Frank
Sommer has provided PADI members in Thailand with easy
access to a full range of educational materials. Frank
and his team have successfully promoted the importance
of student self-study and the goal of getting individuals
into the water as soon as possible. Dive Supply endorses
the PADI Partnership philosophy by ensuring new concepts,
designs and programs are quickly implemented in the
local environment.
The PADI award for Outstanding Contribution to Diver
Education was presented to Scuba Corner, a PADI 5 Star
Instructor Development Centre in Singapore. Store owner,
Eric Yeo, a PADI Master Instructor and his staff have
done a sterling job in recent years to enhance the awareness
and significance of PADI educational materials and to
ensure that all students get the most out of their diving
experience throughout Singapore. Not only do Scuba Corner
stock a full range of PADI educational materials, offer
a full range of PADI courses from Open Water Diver through
to Instructor level, they also provide instruction in
English, Japanese and Italian.

With
a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre in metropolitan
Manila and PADI Dive Centres in San Juan and Cebu City,
Scuba World Inc. is one of the oldest and most respected
names in the Filipino dive industry. John Wee, the President
of Scuba World accepted the PADI award for Outstanding
Contribution to the Dive Industry. Due to their ongoing
support and promotion of the PADI system in recent years,
PADI members in the Philippines have had easier access
to diver education materials and products. Scuba World
also offers PADI instruction in Japanese and European
languages in addition to Filipino.
PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, Planet Scuba
from Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia were awarded for
their Outstanding Contribution to Diver Education. Planet
Scuba promote the importance of educational materials
and products for divers throughout Malaysia and focus
their efforts towards certifying high numbers of PADI
scuba divers on a yearly basis. Planet Scuba offer their
customers many services such as store packages and promotions,
dive trips and holidays as well as equipment sales, rentals
and service. They also provide the opportunity for new
divers to get involved with a well organised dive club.
One of their recent club events was a Mega Dive Party
and in 2001, Planet Scuba became record holders of "The
Largest Formation of Scuba Divers" in the Malaysia
Book of Records.
