Emergency First Response First Aid Program Gains Momentum in Thailand 12 News PADI Instructors

Emergency First Response CPR and First Aid Programs are now available to PADI Instructors through their local PADI Course Directors and Emergency First Response Instructor Courses.

On a visit to DEMA in October 2002, where the program was first released, PADI Course Director, Chris Owen attended a PADI Course Director Update which included the first Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer Course. Then in November he conducted the first Emergency First Response Instructor Course with PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, Warm Water Divers in Phuket. Thailand.
Present for the course were 9 new Open Water Scuba Instructors and a number of PADI Instructors who were crossing over to the new EFR program.
The course started with Course Orientation using the new EFR Instructor Lesson Guides, now part of most PADI Instructor training…. working with a computer and LCD projector - a very effective and most welcome improvement.
The participants then watched portions of the EFR video - especially impressive when viewed through an LCD projector and large screen. They were all very enthusiastic about the new video with its modern look and approach.

Following a lunch break, they rotated in small groups to demonstrate the role-model technique for all Primary and Secondary Care Skills. This section concluded with a look at the Scenario Practice where the participants put the skills they had learnt into a "real life scenario."Of particular interest was the exciting introduction of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). Course Director, Chris Owen is a Dive Medic Technician and has received training with various AED's. He was able to add some interesting first-hand information regarding their use. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, Steve Elliot was there to crossover to the EFR program. Steve is a CPR, ACLS, Registered Nurse with 5 years extensive experience in Adult and Paediatric Cardiology and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was able to give some very valuable input not only on AED's, but also the whole course content. His "real life" information from the field was of great interest and value to everyone. Thank you, Steve!
Following the practical application, the course continued with a look at Organising and Marketing an EFR Course and then came … the final exam. We are proud to announce the group passed with flying colours - our congratulations go to all 12 Emergency First Response Instructors!
